OBAMA'S BAD WOMEN

By Hama Tuma

Michelle Obama aside, Barack Obama has a penchant for very bad women. Wendy Sherman, the windbag of Foggy Bottom, and Gayle Smith, the new USAID chief who loves dictators, and the notorious Susan Rice are cases in point. Smith has been around more time to do more damage and to contribute to the putrefaction of the Clinton--Obama policy on Africa in general and Ethiopia in particular.

Eritrea blighted by 'ruthless repression' and human rights violations, says UN

The Eritrean government has been linked with “ruthless repression” and systemic human rights violations, including carrying out widespread detention and forcing citizens into indefinite military service, according to the UN’s first inquiry into human rights in the secretive country.

THE FRACAS IN SOUTH AFRICA

By Hama Tuma

Some people know how to say thank you. Others wield knives and machetes on their benefactors. In Ethiopia, we mention children who bite the breasts of their feeding mothers Ungrateful. And in reverse, we also say we do good but we only scoop ashes in return. Robert Mugabe has put it better: South Africans can remove the statue of a dead  white man but cannot slap a live one and they can kill black south Africans. What happened in Durban and Soweto (we still remember the more than 60 killed in 2008) is not xenophobia but Afro phobia. The mob, provoked to a frenzy of hate and violence by none other than one of the sons of Zuma and the so called King of the Zulus who is a shame on the great name of Shaka, went on a killing spree that was directed ONLY against black Africans from other countries that had actually helped the South African struggle.

The United States’ irresponsible praise of Ethiopia’s regime

By Washigton Post Editorial Board April 30

ETHIOPIA’S ELECTIONS, scheduled for May 24, are shaping up to be anything but democratic. A country that has often been held up as a poster child for development has been stifling civic freedoms and systematically cracking down on independent journalism for several years.

It was consequently startling to hear the State Department’s undersecretary of state for political affairs, Wendy Sherman, declare during a visit to Addis Ababa on April 16 that “Ethiopia is a democracy that is moving forward in an election that we expect to be free, fair and credible.” The ensuing backlash from Ethiopians and human rights advocates was deserved.

Ethiopia's jailing of Zone 9 bloggers has a chilling effect on freedom of expression

Ethiopian professionals. Eventually, they decided to launch a blog about social and civic issues in Africa’s second-most-populous nation.
“Initially, it was not about political activism or about criticising the government. It was to connect with like-minded people,” said Soliyana Shimeles, 28, one of the founders of the blog Zone 9.

The Great Illusion  - Part VII Isaias Afwerki’s Fear of Ethiopia

By  Worku Aberra

(Writer’s Note: This will be the last instalment of my commentary on ESAT’s interview with Isaias Afwerki. I acknowledge the public service that ESAT has provided in posting the video clips of the interview. I would like to thank the many readers who have given me their feedback, both favourable and critical. I would also like to thank the websites that posted my commentary. Thank you.)
In part VI, I have shown the logical inconsistencies of the fiction “Ethiopian colonialism”. In this part, I will outline the motivations behind the coinage of the term, the purposes for which it has been used, and the problems it poses for allying with Isaias and the EPLF.

Q&A: The man smuggling Ethiopians to Europe

In search of a better life has dramatically increased over the past few months.

Al Jazeera spoke to ‘Ahmed,’ a well known people trafficking broker who many young Ethiopians in Addis Ababa have used to try and get to Europe.

What is to be done? (Part 14) It is not new

The problem of killings of Ethiopians and other Africans is not new. As it happened in this few days it happened in the last decades especially since the brutal regime of EPRDF took power in 1991 in Ethiopia. In fact the main cause of this and other inhuman action is this dictatorial regime and the so called ‘’opposition parties’ ‘who are created to aid the masking of the Human Rights violation of the regime.

DENOUNCE THE REPRESSION IN ETHIOPIA

Ever since extremists murdered close to 30 Ethiopians in Libya and Afro-phobic South African mobs killed Ethiopians in Durban and Soweto, Ethiopians inside the country have been staging peaceful protest demonstrations not only against but also against the regime in Addis Abeba correctly accused of causing the plight and flight of Ethiopians to dangerous countries and criminal traffickers. And the regime has responded with violence and repression.

CRIME AGAINST ETHIOPIANS--THE UNHCR IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE!

Brutal murder of Ethiopians by Daesh (IS) in Libya. The killing of Ethiopians in South Africa. Deportation of Ethiopian refugees by the Sudan, Djibouti and Kenya. The terrible plight of Ethiopian in Yemen. The UN agency supposed to protect and care for refugees is nowhere to be seen. Shame on the UNHCR that, by not doing its duty, has helped those who went after Ethiopian refugees with evil intent.

Eritrean teen migrant forced to witness Libya massacre – ‘I watched IS beheading Christians’

In Lieu of Eritrean & Ethiopian Ties

Amdemikael Mengisteab – <amdemikaelmengisteab@yahoo.com>

Background:

For the most part the following critical issues and their analyses in this article are exclusively relevant to understand how the PFDJ regime has been consistently handling the Eritrean and Ethiopian ties since its days as a guerilla fighter front in the bushes.

PRESS RELEASE
ARDUF CONDEMNS DREADFUL MASSACER OF INNOCENT ETHIOPIANS BY ISIL

Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front (ARDUF) is deeply shocked by the heinous, barbaric and dreadful massacre of innocent Ethiopians committed by ISIL Terrorist groups in Libya condemns in the strongest possible terms the horrendous terrorist act killing of innocent Ethiopian Christians in Libya, as it is utterly unacceptable crimes against humanity.

Anti-ISIL rally turns violent in Ethiopia

Rally over deaths in Libya gains anti-authority momentum with protesters throwing stones at police, prompting crackdown.

Not a safe planet to be an Ethiopian.

By Yilma Bekele
The terrorist group ISIL murdered twenty eight Ethiopians in cold blood in the deserts of Libya. In Durban South Africa two Ethiopian brothers aged twenty two and twenty four were locked inside their ‘container shop’ and set on fire. In Beirut Lebanon a young girl jumped from her employee’s residence on the fourth floor and was badly hurt while across town another one committed suicide by hanging herself.

Africa: How Eritrea, Ethiopia Impose Censorship

Two of the 10 most censored countries in the world are African, says the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Eritrea is the worst in the world, behind even North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Ethiopia is the fourth most censored country. Excerpts from a report published today by the committee:

Ethiopia mourns victims of Islamic State killings

Ethiopia has started three days of national mourning following the killing by Islamic State of more than 20 migrant workers - most thought to be Ethiopian Christians - in Libya.

The Libyan branch of IS on Sunday released videos of the men being beheaded and another group being shot.

STOP THE BRUTAL KILLINGS OF ETHIOPIANS

APRIL 20/2015
From Durban--Soweto in South Africa up to the desert and beaches of Libya, Ethiopians have been brutally murdered. In South Africa, they were victims of Afro-phobic mobs spurred by irresponsible officials and, in Libya, some 30 of them beheaded and shot dead by the Daesh (IS) fanatics for just being Coptic Christians. The EPRP strongly condemns the murderous Daesh group and Libyan militias who had, in the past, been taking violent actions against Ethiopian refugees.

EPRP PROTESTS AGAINST AFROPHOBIA AND KILLINGS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The EPRP strongly protests the ongoing Afrophobia campaign and the brutal killings of refugees in Durban and other places in South Africa. It is shameful to note that Afrophobic radio programs, the son of Jacob Zuma and even the King of Zulu, Goodwill Zwelrthini, have sprinkled petrol over the fire (demanding that the refuges leave, accusing the refugees of every ill of South Africa,  of being dirty, causing car accidents and of even plotting a coup d'état) and sent the mobs on a killing spree against Africans

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Mobs in South Africa attacked shops owned by immigrants in a poor area of Johannesburg early Saturday following similar violence in another part of the country that killed six people, according to media reports.

The Great Illusion Part VI Isaias Afwerki's Colonial Question

By Worku Aberra

Fictional stories serve useful purposes. Ethiopians tell teret, parables to convey a moral message; and Isaias, the EPLF, and its supporters have been telling the fiction that "Eritrea was a colony of Ethiopia" to sanction independence. Today, other ethnic fundamentalist groups, including the TPLF in the past, are doing the same.

The Great Illusion Part V Isaias Afwerki’s Language of Politics and his Politics of Language

By Worku Aberra

Politicians of all hues are infamous for misusing a language for their political ends. And Isaias’ interview provides an excellent case study of falsehoods, subterfuges, euphemisms, and obfuscations.
