The perils of outsourcing the fight for freedom
By Yilma Bekele
I could have titled this piece ‘Obama and his Africa peace keepers’ but that would not be fair. Anybody with half a brain can see that I am trying to make my issue to be his problem. Excuse me just because fighting for my right is beneath my dignity there is no reason to impose on him that I am unable to do for whatever reason. Dear Mr. President we Africans are not amused! This is what appeared on The Guardian

ETHIOPIA--THE DOGS OF REPRESSION UNLEASHED
Following the illegal extradition of opposition Ginbot 7 leader Andargatchew Tsige from Yemen, the repressive regime in Addis Abeba has gone on a spree of arrests in a clear drive to strike at dissidents. Preliminary reports indicate no less than 35 people have been arrested in Addis Abeba in an alleged ( and false) link to "terrorism". The regime has conveniently labeled several opposition organizations as "terrorist".

Detention under spurious charges in Ethiopia is nothing new. With the second highest rate of imprisoned journalists in Africa[1] and arbitrary detention for anyone who openly objects to the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) regime’s despotic iron fist, the Western backed government in Addis Ababa is a dab hand at silencing its critics.
An American Passion for Tyrants
One standard definition of “international development” is that it is the global effort by rich and poor countries alike, working in tandem, to dramatically reduce extreme poverty and want. At the same time, such development should foster the economic growth of poor countries so that they will eventually be able to catch up with rich ones. Then they will share what Walt W. Rostow, the intellectual father of the so-called modernization theory that dominated the Western development world in the 1950s, called the promise of abundance.
