I have recently been in direct contact with members and staff of the United States Senate;
amongst them Senators Leahy, Feingold, and Obama in helping us to amend and improve S3457 (formerly H.R. 2003). The amendment that we seek should include several items specifically:

Political Prisoners deported by force from Nairobi to Mogadishu and then taken to Ethiopia to be imprisoned in fetid secret prisons in Addis Ababa have now revealed that they were tortured both by EPRDF soldiers and by Americans. I think the prison and the interrogation was under the control of the Americans, has said one detainee. Some of these detainees have now been released to Kenya while more than 22 are still being held in what is now being called the African Guantanamo.

Leave aside the increasing violence and mayhem in Mogadishu and other places, the recent report that the Somali Transitional Government is to be moved out of Somalia to Nairobi is enough proof that the invasion by the troops of Meles Zenawi has turned into a complete fiasco.

The Kenyans who were detained illegally by the EPRDF in a detention center in Addis Ababa have now been released and they have exposed the brutal torture to which they were subjected by EPRDF security personnel and foreign intelligence operatives allied to Meles Zenawi.

There is at present a concerted campaign launched from several quarters to vilify the Ethiopian generation of the 60s and 70s that struggled for change and for the basic democratic rights of the people. This really dirty campaign is orchestrated, on the hand, by the remnants of the defunct regimes (both feudal and military-totalitarian), by the ethnic centrist Tigrean regime and its poodles, by intellectuals knowingly or otherwise sold to the super power.

I have observed recently an interesting but not focused discussion going on concerning Ethiopia and what is the meaning and worth of Ethiopiawinet. At the base of this discussion, argument at times is the tenet of Ethio centrism which is actually derived from afro centrism. What is afro centrism? Is it even relevant to Ethiopia?

Part I: An Overview
This discussion note is an attempt to briefly explore some of the underlying internal and external factors, which are presumed to be root causes of the current psychosocial and political realities in Ethiopia. This question has to be answered. Unless we respond to this question truthfully and objectively, there is no guaranty that the future struggle will succeed. Within a short period following the election of May 15, 2005 result, the struggle, instead of vehemently being upheld and defended, it was literally abandoned.

The Miseducation of an Irish Racist or Who Really Cares for Kevin Myers? By Hama Tuma
Kevin Myers is no Gobineau. No sophistication, just crude. He seems to me an attention grabbing pedestrian racist with a special hostility for Africa and Africans. Not that he has focused on Africans and refrained from attacking others (he calls the Scots "obese and dependent on welfare"), single mothers (producers of "bastards")
