JANUARY 21/2009
Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has handpicked 26 members of his own ruling party/EPRDF/ who graduated from the State controlled Civil Service College and appointed them as judges. This follows a continuous purge of trained and experienced but independent judges all over Ethiopia.
SOLUTIONS WITH DEBTERAW, IV
Call me by my name, address and task

Versus
On March 23, 2008, an article on Debteraw vs. Senator, was posted on debteraw.com call me by my name: solutions with Debteraw, XXV and http://mahder.com. That article was based on the differences between DEBTERAW and the Senator. It was about race, color and religion.
The invading troops of Meles Zenawi have been forced to leave Somalia after two years of wreaking havoc and committing war crimes. The corrupt commander of the troops, the officer who was shaking down Mogadishu business men, that is to say, Gabre Yohannes, did try to put a brave face and to claim that the operation was a success and the mission “accomplished” bringing to mind yet another such claim that turned to be false elsewhere.

1. There are good signs that Congress and the Obama administration will press for human rights and political freedom in Ethiopia.
Four influential U.S. senators wrote to Meles this week expressing strong concerns about the erosion of political freedom and the rule of law in Ethiopia. Their letter cites the arrest of Unity for Democracy and Justice Party leader Birtukan Midekssa and the reinstatement of her life sentence.

Thousands of Somalis have gathered at the football stadium in Mogadishu to celebrate the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from the city.
The stadium was a former Ethiopian base and Islamist and clan elders called for Somalis to solve their own problems and not resort to more violence.
There has been no fighting in the city since the Ethiopians left this week.
MOGADISHU, SOMALIA Jan 15 2009 07:36
Ethiopian forces supporting Somalia's government withdrew completely from Mogadishu on Thursday, witnesses and a senior official said, leaving a power vacuum in the capital expected to lead to more violence.

The UN Security Council has given Eritrea a five-week ultimatum to withdraw its forces from a disputed border region with Djibouti.
The UN resolution also called for Eritrea to remove its military equipment from the Ras Doumeira region and the island of Doumeira.

Kinijit/AEUP International Foreign Relations
The human rights situation in Ethiopia has continued to deteriorate. The suppression of the All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP) has intensified. The shutdown of the newspaper Andenet and its Web edition has not been reversed. Wzro Mesobework is on bail but still facing phony charges concocted by the regime.

EPRP Norway denounces the violations of human rights in Ethiopia, and supports the international campaign for the release of all prisoners of conscience in Ethiopia.
Notwithstanding the claims made by those foreign powers busily engaged in organizing elections and “supporting democracy” in Ethiopia, the intensity of the repression and persecution of all political dissent has not decreased, but increased since the Woyanes came to power.

Ethiopia's main opposition leader has been sent to prison to serve a life sentence, after a pardon granted to her last year was revoked.
Birtukan Medeksa was among more than 100 people jailed for offences after controversial polls in 2005.
A dispute over the terms of her release caused her re-arrest.

DECEMBER 29/2008
The repressive regime of Meles Zenawi has detained the leader of the opposition political party UDJ, Weizero Bertukan Midiksa, on flimsy grounds that pertain to her comment on the question of her so called pardon by the regime sometime ago. Reports indicate that some ten security agents apprehended her and bundled her to jail. Early reports indicate that she has been taken to the notorious Kaliti prison.

Hundreds of young Somalis have been arrested in the past few days in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
A number were questioned and then released but it is thought at least 200 are still being held.
Most of the arrests took place on Tuesday night and Wednesday in the Bole area, the part of the town where most of the Somali community lives.

Every morning at dawn, groups of Ethiopian soldiers poke long metal-tipped poles into the soil on the dirt track linking Badme, a dusty border town, with civilization, looking for landmines.
Major Shale Taame says Eritreans sneak across the border to plant the landmines at night, and it falls to the border guards on the dawn shift to clear them up.

The human rights situation in most of Africa and other parts of the world is deplorable despite the declared adherence by most countries to respect the articles in the Universal Declaration of human rights (1948). In Ethiopia, where a dictatorial regime cynically claims adherence to world human rights declarations and law the human rights situation is worse than deplorable.

On Solutions
To solve a problem, we must identify, rectify or eliminate the causes of the problem.
I have seen collectivism being practiced by the DERG in the state of Arussi. It was humiliating experience for the peasants of Arussi to be collectivized without their consent. I was saddened to see them in such a state of affairs dictated by fascists. I saw the experiments of collectivism in Ethiopia as the root of social evils especially compared to the CADU projects.

The regime of Meles Zenawi controls the judiciary in Ethiopia and, true to its Stalinist convictions, uses the court as means of punishing dissidents and taking revenge against those that dare to displease it. Popular singer Tedros Kassahin, known as Teddy Afro, has been railroaded through the kangaroo court and found guilty of manslaughter--(running over a pedestrian).
EREBTI, 2 December 2008 (IRIN) - Thousands of vulnerable civilians who left their homes in north-eastern Ethiopia in June because of drought are living in poor conditions in an urban area in Afar region, residents and local officials said on 24 November.
“Some 519 families moved to Erebti town from the two most affected kebeles [wards] of Haitan and Aleyta when they started losing their livestock to the drought,” a field staff member of an international NGO, who requested anonymity, told IRIN in Erebti.
Ethiopian pop star Teddy Afro has been convicted of the manslaughter of a homeless man killed in a hit-and-run incident in Addis Ababa in 2006.
The singer was found guilty of running the man down in his car and driving away without reporting the incident.

An Ethiopian proverb says: someone who has been out in the rain will not worry of getting wet. Having been out in the rain for far too many times that I care to remember I am presently unperturbed by the slack I may pick when I deal with weighty and sad subjects in what some may consider a lighter vein. Of course, satire being an altogether different ball game, some fail to grasp its core and often accuse me and others of trivializing “serious subjects”. Here goes anyway.

Jean Paul Sartre once said that words are loaded pistols. The same can be said of alphabets, at least where it concerns Ethiopians. Back in the late sixties and seventies, there was tendency within leftist groups and parties of the world to split, with the splitters still keeping the mother name but adding alphabets to it. CP (R), CP (ML), CP (D) and a whole parade of qualified names. Read More.....
